Terms & Conditions

Last updated 7 September 2026. These terms apply when you use Opening. By creating an account you agree to them.

The service

Opening reads the Food Standards Agency’s public food hygiene register every 10 minutes, identifies food businesses that have newly registered with their local council, and presents them to you as leads in a dashboard and an email digest. It is intended for business-to-business use by suppliers to the hospitality trade.

Trial and billing

  • Opening is sold as a single Regional plan (£149 per month), covering every council we currently monitor — our full present coverage. Prices are exclusive of VAT where applicable.
  • New accounts get a 14-day free trial of the full product. A payment card is required to start the trial, nothing is charged until the trial ends, and if you cancel before it ends you are not charged.
  • Subscriptions bill monthly in advance through Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled.
  • You can cancel at any time from the Billing page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for; we do not refund partial periods.
  • If we introduce further plans in future, any change you make will take effect immediately where it increases your fee (charged pro-rata) and at the end of the current period where it reduces it.
  • If a payment fails, Stripe retries for a short grace period. Access may be suspended if payment is not completed.

Acceptable use

  • The feed is licensed to your business for its own sales activity. You may not resell, republish, syndicate or otherwise redistribute it, in whole or in part.
  • You may not bulk-scrape, mirror or automate extraction of the feed beyond the export features we provide, and you may not share your account credentials with anyone outside your business.
  • You must use contact information lawfully, including under UK GDPR and PECR: B2B approaches only, honour objections and opt-outs promptly, and no unlawful, misleading or abusive contact.
  • Where we make in-product feedback or comment features available to you, anything you post must not be unlawful, defamatory or abusive; we may remove content that is.

Accounts and termination

You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your login secure. You can close your account at any time using the “Delete account” action on your profile page, which removes your data immediately. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, or where payment is not made, and will normally give notice first where it is reasonable to do so.

Data accuracy

Register records come from the Food Standards Agency and, where linked, Companies House. Opening does not create, verify or guarantee that data. Councils publish at different rates and records can be incomplete, delayed, duplicated or superseded. The service is provided on an “as is” basis, and you should confirm details before acting on them commercially.

Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, Opening is not liable for lost profits, lost business, lost opportunities or indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period.

Changes, governing law and contact

We may update these terms; material changes will be notified by email or in the app before they take effect. These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
